Plot :
Traveling throughout America, protagonists Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) use their father's journal to help them carry on the family business—saving people and hunting supernatural creatures. The season begins with the brothers tracking down the demons released from Hell in the previous season finale. They become allies with a demon named Ruby (Katie Cassidy), who claims to know a way to release Dean from his demonic pact—he had sold his soul to a demon and was given a year to live in exchange for Sam's resurrection—and wants to protect them from the new demonic leader Lilith. As Dean's deadline approaches, their efforts are further hindered by Bela Talbot (Lauren Cohan), a professional thief of occult items who is often at odds with the Winchesters.

After their mother's death in a suspicious fire, Sam and Dean Winchester live a life on the road with their father as they grow up. Years pass and the boys team up to find their father, John Winchester, who went missing on a hunting trip. However, their father is not a typical hunter, he hunts supernatural creatures like ghosts, vampires, and spirits and he's trained his sons to do the same. Along the way, Sam and Dean save innocent people, fight creatures and ghosts, and collect clues to their father's whereabouts. Sam begins to mysteriously develop psychic abilities and visions as they travel. They eventually find their father, who reveals that the creature that killed Sam and Dean's mother years earlier is Yellow-eyes and the only thing that can kill him is a legendary gun created by Samuel Colt.

Upon his return to Starling City, he is reunited with his mother, Moira (Susanna Thompson), her new husband, Walter Steele (Colin Salmon), the former CFO of his father's company who is now the CEO; and his younger sister, Thea (Willa Holland). He is also greeted by his best friend, Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), the son of successful businessman Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman). Oliver also tries to reconnect with ex-girlfriend Laurel, but she blames him for the death of her sister, Sara.

General Bressler stuck by his coup and was about to throw the 2nd Mass into the brig, but he was interrupted by the arrival of Red-Eye, with Ben, who delivered significant intel: The Overlord that Tom and the 2nd Mass have been clashing with all season is basically a walking computer that manages the Espheni* race’s operations on the East Coast, so to kill him would seriously cripple the fish-heads’ plan. Red-Eye said the Espehni were constructing a massive weapon 500 miles away, and he knew a network of tunnels that could lead an attack team inside the perimeter and kill the Overlord.
